We can import and export to most countries, except those you would not want or be allowed to do business with, such as North Korea. We recommend that you take advice from K&L Freight if you are contemplating making any overseas purchases or sales. Different regions in large countries often have their challenges and factors we need to consider. It is quite straightforward for example to arrange an import from most of the coastal cities in China, whereas dealing with a supplier in the western hinterlands of China is a completely different proposition!

There are a myriad of regulations and a host of government departments that are involved in regulating imports not just Customs! DEFRA, UK Port Health, The Forestry Commission, Trading Standards, The Home Office, Borderforce, and several other government departments have statutory powers and may require documentation to be presented and/or inspect goods. Customs compliance can therefore be complicated which is why importers themselves seldom handle their own customs clearances. Our advice is to talk to K&L Freight and we will guide you through the various requirements, which will inevitably vary depending on what you are importing.

At K&L Freight we pride ourselves on knowing the necessary documentary requirements for each country you are sending to and we can assist you in their preparation or even prepare them for you. All you need to do is ask.

As a rule of thumb, all goods need to be packed suitably for the journey they will take. Bear in mind other goods may be put on top of your shipment so your packing must be able to withstand this. If you don’t want anything to be loaded on your shipment, a ‘non-stack’ booking can be requested, you must make this clear at the time of booking. Be prepared to have to pay for the air space above your shipment as nobody can then use this space. You may then calculate if the cost of suitable packing for a standard booking outweighs the additional cost of booking non-stack. K&L Freight can advise on a case-by-case basis. We never recommend sending goods unpacked, any damage would be at your own risk and any insurance arranged for the goods whilst in transit may be invalidated.
